The Program is complete, application opened and posters welcomed

Now it's four months left until the doors are opened to the conference. The program is all set and full of exciting lectures and workshops. There are over one hundred lectures in three days.

How does the organic market respond in these times of crisis?
There have been reports that the market for organic products in Britain is back after a long period of growth. In Sweden, we have not yet seen any such trends. Jonathan Banks, Business Insight Director from Nielsen, gives us a fresh report on what happens in the consumer market in Scandinavia and Europe (session IC on Monday 18 / 5, 13.30-15.00). In the same session, Jean-François Hulot of the European Commission will tell us about their campaign and labelling of organic production.

Organic food to school kids – a current topic
The debate on school meals and food for children is current in many countries. Dorte Ruge will talk about two Danish school projects to inspire greater use and awareness of organic food. Gun Roos is a Swedish/Finnish researcher who work in Norway in the European project iPOPY. She is in that perspective a perfect representative of our Nordic conference. The project iPOPY want to find out how to achieve greater consumption of organic food by focusing on school food. It would also see whether such an increase may reduce food related health and obesity risks. Dorte and Gun, you hear in session IIA, Monday 18 / 5, 15.30-17.00.

International trade, trade marks and Green capitalism
How is international trade, brand building and capitalism, together with sustainable food production? Pär Larsans from Max Hamburger Resturanger AB, who recently was appointed to the green capitalist in 2008 by a Swedish business magazine, tells of how they have worked to add care of the planet to their brand. Do not miss Mwatima Juma from the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) in Tanzania, she talks about the development of sustainable agriculture through international trade.

The Interfood exhibition at the Swedish Exhibition Centre established Sweden's largest ever gathering place for organic food in September 2007. With NOC and Interfood side by side a completely new forum for organic food issues in the Nordic countries will be created. A unique meeting place where training, networking, products and interpersonal meetings will be the focus, a new Nordic platform where future and lasting contacts are made. Visit http://www.interfood.se to book a space or learn more about the exhibition.

The 1st NOC programme is planned by the Centre for sustainable agriculture (CUL) at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences in close cooperation with:

  • Danish Agricultural Advisory Service and International Centre for Research in Organic Food Systems (ICROFS)
  • Norwegian Institute for Agricultural and Environmental Research (Bioforsk Økologisk)
  • MTT Agrifood Research Finland

The practical arrangements are coordinated by the Centre for sustainable agriculture in collaboration with The County Administrative Board of Västra Götaland and Interfood.
